Quincy lawyer James A. Rapp was honored by the Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Board of the Supreme Court of Illinois for thirteen years of leadership and instrumental service at a meeting in Chicago on Dec. 5.
Rapp was appointed as a charter member of the nine-member MCLE Board by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2005. The Board convened in 2005 and was tasked to establish and implement a program of ongoing professional education for Illinois’ nearly-100,000 licensed lawyers. At the initiative of the Court, Rapp’s tenure on the Board was extended beyond the nine-year term limit.
In 2016, the Court appointed him to serve as chair of the Board. Rapp previously served as vice-chair and was active in establishing the structure and operation of the program. He is the last of the charter members to serve on the Board.
A partner in the law firm of Schmeideskamp Robertson Neu and Mitchell, LLP, Rapp practices in the areas of estate planning, real estate, business matters, and education law. He is also a widely-published author, best known for Education Law , a seven-volume treatise on school law. He and his wife Martha have three daughters and seven grandchildren.
