Effective estate planning requires a basic understanding of many issues. This is especially important for larger estates where estate taxes are of concern. In Illinois, a larger estate is an estate in excess of the Illinois exclusion amount – currently $4 Million – and in estates such a Missouri that do not have an estate tax, the federal estate tax exclusion amount – roughly $5 Million.
