Ott Passes Florida Bar

Joseph Ott Passes Florida Bar

Joseph Ott, of Schmiedeskamp Robertson Neu & Mitchell LLP, has passed the Florida Bar exam allowing him to become a licensed practitioner in the State of Florida. “We noticed an increase over the last few years in the number of inquiries we received about state taxes and residency issues and realized there was nobody locally that could service that need. Getting someone licensed in Florida was the logical next step,” said Mike Bickhaus, the firm’s managing partner. “As a firm, we have identified Estate Planning and Administration as one of our primary focus areas. Joseph’s passion to help clients plan for their future made him the natural choice.”

Reciprocity, where a state grants admission to their bar without taking an exam, is becoming more popular. Florida is one of the few states that still requires bar applicants to pass an exam. The Florida bar exam consists of a two‐day comprehensive exam that tests federal law and Florida law.

“I’m excited we will be able to meet a growing client need without burdening them with having to find new counsel. Many of these clients we have represented for decades and having a Florida license will allow us to continue to do so for years to come” Ott said. Joseph was sworn in earlier this year. He is also licensed to practice law in Illinois and Missouri.
